In 2006, more than 60 local organizations, including American Metro Bank, participated in Chicago's fourth-annual Money Smart Week, a week-long event scheduled to feature more than 150 free seminars on personal finance topics.
On Monday, 23 May 2005, AMB, in conjunction with Chinese American Service League (CASL), hosted "To Your Credit", an interactive seminar geared towards teens, which detailed the importance of credit history and how to keep it in good standing. AMB Loan Officers explained the function of a credit report, how to build credit, how to repair damaged credit, how to recognize credit repair scams and provided a list of available resources.
The program was free of charge and open to the public in CASL's Grand Hall located at 2141 S. Tan Court in Chicago's Chinatown.
AMB is a Money Smart Week Alliance Member. Money Smart Week began in 2002 as a coordinated effort of the Money Smart Advisory Council, a diverse group of more than 40 Chicago-area organizations working together to promote personal financial literacy. Members agreed to share resources and ideas to achieve greater public awareness of the programs and services available in the City of Chicago.
Since the initial effort, the Chicago Fed has coordinated and promoted Money Smart Week each year resulting in six days of focused presentations by community groups, financial institutions, government agencies, educational organizations, and financial experts, all designated to help consumers learn to better manage their personal finances. Today, Money Smart Week is much broader in scope as it continues to expand, creating new partnerships, heightened exposure, and substantive events.

Immigrant Individual Taxpayer ID Numbers
American Metro Bank is pleased to announce its recent authorization as a "Certifying Acceptance Agent" by the U.S. Department of Treasury. As a Certifying Acceptance Agent, American Metro Bank can now expedite the issuance of Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN) to immigrants who do not have social security numbers for tax compliance purposes also allowing such customers to open interest bearing accounts. American Metro Bank is the second bank in the Chicagoland area to be given such authorization.
American Metro Bank estimates that it will be able to serve hundreds of previously un-banked immigrants after obtaining their ITIN. The Chinatown branch, which opened on April 1, 2002, as well as the main bank in Uptown, were both authorized as Certifying Acceptance Agents.
